Winter Foods...

I grew-up in an Italian American household where there wasn't too many reasons NOT to cook. I don't know if this "came over in the boat" with my family, but during the winter months when it snowed, my Nana would always prepare Pork Chops and Vinegar Peppers. It's a meal that to many, may not sound so appealing, but as with anything my Nana would make, it was delicious! This was just one of the many "cozy" meals that would be served at my family table in the winter. I also remember having soups and meatier pasta sauces when it was cold outside. I just made some Sausage and Lentil soup for my family to have throughout the week. Nothing is as good as hearty bowl of soup and a hunk of crusty Italian bread...molto bene! By the end of this week, I will be making my all time favorite Chicken Soup. It's so simple and so good. I make an Italian style version with pastina, garlic and escarole greens. I garnish it with shredded parmesan cheese. Of course, crusty bread to accompany it is a must! Soups are such a cozy treat for these very cold winter days.
